What you get with Visual Studio Enterprise 2022

One product key that activates Visual Studio Enterprise 2022 on one PC. Enterprise is the top edition of Microsoft’s IDE: it contains everything in Professional, plus diagnostic, testing and architecture tools that no other edition has. You download the Enterprise installer from Microsoft, choose your workloads and enter the key inside Visual Studio. You pay once, and the key covers the IDE itself, without the Azure credits or other extras of a Visual Studio subscription.

Tools only the Enterprise edition has

• IntelliTrace records debugger events, exceptions and, if you enable it, call data, so you can go back to an earlier point of a run without restarting the app. It fully supports C# and Visual Basic apps on .NET Framework.
• Live Unit Testing reruns the unit tests affected by each edit in the background and marks every line as covered by passing tests, failing tests or none. It works with MSTest, xUnit and NUnit.
• Code coverage reports which blocks and lines your tests exercise, for managed and native code. In Visual Studio 2022 it is limited to Enterprise.
• Microsoft Fakes replaces dependencies with stubs and shims, so a test checks one unit of code in isolation, including SDK-style and modern .NET projects.
• IntelliTest generates a starting suite of unit tests for C# code that targets .NET Framework.
• Code maps and dependency diagrams can be created and edited only in Enterprise; Professional and Community open them read-only.

Enterprise or Professional, one PC or five

How to activate your Visual Studio Enterprise 2022 key

1. Use the link in your order e-mail to download the Enterprise 2022 installer from Microsoft.
2. Run it with administrator rights and pick your workloads, for example .NET desktop development or ASP.NET and web development. For code maps, also tick Code Map and Live Dependency Validation under Individual components.
3. When setup is done, open Visual Studio. In the File menu choose Account Settings.
4. Follow the License with a Product Key link, enter the 25-character key and apply it. The right-hand side of the dialog now names the Enterprise license.

Questions about Visual Studio Enterprise 2022

Does it still include load testing and Microsoft Test Manager?

No. Microsoft Test Manager 2017, which came with Visual Studio 2017, was the last version, and Visual Studio 2019 was the last release with full web performance and load testing. Visual Studio 2022 can run existing load tests but has no templates for new ones.

Does Visual Studio Enterprise 2022 need a permanent internet connection?

No, not once it is installed. Microsoft recommends a product key for PCs with little or no internet access, because a sign-in license goes stale when the PC stays offline too long. The installer downloads its components, so setup needs a connection unless you prepare an offline layout first.

What happens if the key does not activate?
